Welcome
Welcome to the very first episode of the Ones Ready Podcast! We are really excited to have you in the Ones Ready Team Room to introduce you to the Ones Ready team and everything we are planning to do in the near future. A huge thank you for all the support you have shown us so far on Instagram and Facebook. We are always open to receiving messages so don’t hesitate to contact us on Instagram, Facebook, or email us at info@onesready.com. We started this Podcast to ensure you have the most pertinent and relevant information about everything related to Special Warfare, so you can go out and crush your goals. If there’s anything that you guys want to hear from us or see from us, we're always looking for new topics to discuss.
Today we are going to talk about what Ones Ready is, introduce each member of the Ones Ready team, and hear their #1 tip for selection. Our team is made up of 2 PJs, 1 Combat Controller, and 1 Special Reconnaissance Operator. They are all here to give you as much knowledge as possible, and are all experienced Operators at the top of their game and well respected within the community. They each have the heart of a teacher and want to ensure you guys are successful. So going forward, we want you to know that we’re here to do whatever it takes to help you guys succeed.
Mental and Physical Training
So first thing that we're going to be talking about is mental and physical training from our own personal experience. Between the 4 of us, we have all have our own unique experiences with Selection… from going through it, to Instructing, and writing lesson plans for it. Through this podcast, we are going to tell you what we know from firsthand experience. Our goal is to impart our valuable information on to you guys so that you know what to expect and you can get selected. You will know those attributes that cadre are looking for and the physicality of the nature of selection and how you guys should prepare. It’s also important to sort through all of the information out there and prioritize your training goals, so we’re here to assist by giving you some direction in that arena. We will point you in the direction where you can most efficiently train for your next target, because if we keep knocking down five meter targets, pretty soon you're 50 meters down the road, you're wearing a beret and it's time for a new challenge. Another fact that is overlooked by candidates is overtraining. Not only is it important to be prepared physically, it’s important to train smart and really listen to your body. Education is everything and understanding how your body works and how nutrition works and how it works for you, is huge. We see guys coming in the pipeline and they're like, “I'm trying to get a six pack or I'm on a 800 calorie a day diet.” Training correctly, avoiding injury, setting the right goals… We are going to talk about it all, as well as the changing PAST standards, OFT, and all those kinds of things.
PARTNERSHIPS AND COLLABORATIONS
One really beneficial part of this Podcast is the fact that we are strategically collaborating with some amazing brands, people, and resources. Although the 4 of us know all about what it takes to get selected, get through the various pipelines, and what it’s like to be an Operator… we don’t know all the ins and outs of recruiting. And, we get A LOT of recruiter questions. So, we have created a direct line to Special Operations Recruiters here on our website. When you submit a question, you will get an answer from a Spec Ops recruiter within 72 hrs, guaranteed! We also have podcast episodes coming up in the near future where some Special Operations Recruiters will drop some knowledge for everyone that wants to take the Special Operations path.
Being in Special Operations, all of us have had the privilege of networking with some amazing organizations and people, and we are super proud to be able to share that with you. That is the good thing about the team, we're going to leverage our decades of SOF experience and networking too. It's a very small world. It's a much smaller Special Operations world and the people that you can build those networks with that's really important. You're going to be able to build your own network to find training partners, to find advice, to find motivation. Our one purpose is making you better than we've ever been and giving you the tools to do that. So along with guests and networking, we're trying to build something here that's along the same lines. Let's get to the actual work and earn our berets and go do the mission.
Another HUGE goal we have for this Ones Ready brand is to bring you exclusive training events. And in order to make things like that happen, we have brought on some sponsors to hook you up with some pretty sweet discounts on products we use and believe in. Looking for some clean energy? Sugar free, calorie free, legit tasting energy? Look no further. We have teamed up with Strike Force Energy, a Navy Seal owned company, to bring you a pretty sweet discount. Just head over to Strikeforceenergy.com and use code ONES READY at checkout.
Another awesome brand we are lucky to collaborate with is a LEO/MIL owned company, Alphabrew Coffee. Not only is their coffee legitimately delicious, it is single origin and infused with nootropics to combat jitteryness. Head over to Alphabrewcoffee.com and use code ONES READY at checkout.
Host intros
Trent Seegmiller, former SOWT, now Special Reconnaissance has been in the Air Force for 16 years. With several deployments under his belt, Trent has a lot of experience as a STT Team Sergeant and really passionate about developing SW Candidates. He is currently at Lackland building out the SR Pipeline after standing up the SW Prep Course. For more information, you can read more on his About page or watch the interview he did with Brian. Trent’s #1 Selection tip is Perspective:
“When we talk about leaving people better off than we were… I'm just trying to push people a little bit further along and help make those mental connections earlier on in their career that I took way too long to make about where I was, who I am, what my job is. And how to effectively get after the mission and not feel sorry for myself or not go down paths that are unnecessary, not being honest enough with myself. So just being able to put out a lot of that type of experience and if you're suffering like me, it takes a little bit of time and people telling you a lot of times to get through your skull. But, I'm just trying to plant those seeds, you know, and I've seen it happen… you plant those seeds and some of them sprout and some of them don't. But I'm just trying to give you all the opportunity to be successful, that you can come into the pipeline.”
Jared “Peaches” Pietras, Combat controller, has been an Active Duty CCT for 20 years. He has had a multitude of deployments and assignments all over the world. For more information about Jared, you can read about him on his About page or watch his interview with Brian Silva. Peach’s biggest tip for selection:
“The, the biggest tip that I would would leave for you guys other than the, the physical aspect of it would be the mental, the humility aspect of it. I think you've gotta be extremely humble as you go through the pipeline, and once you get on team. Because the reality is, you don't know anything about the job until you get a fantastic team Sergeant or fantastic leader that can take you and carry you to where you need to go. So that is what I would leave with you guys.”
Aaron Love, Pararescueman, has been Active Duty for 18 years. He entered the PJ pipeline as a cross trainee, and has been a PJ for 12 years now. He has served in ACC, AFSOC, AETC, several assignments all over the world, as well as 5 combat deployments. For more information about Aaron, see his About page or his interview with Brian Silva. Aaron’s best selection tip is this:
”My biggest tip for anybody going into the pipeline is if you constantly behave like a student, even at my level, I try to go in everyday and I try to behave like a student, take notes, pay attention, see what works and see what doesn't. You've got two ears and one mouth, so you should be listening twice as much. If you can be a good student and you can always devote yourself to a lifelong pursuit of understanding the knowledge that people are going to give to you, you're going to be way more successful than you could ever imagine. And it's kinda counterintuitive. You think you're going to be a Jedi master one day, a Jedi master was a Jedi student for way longer than he was a Jedi master. So those are some things I'm passionate about. I'm always trying to approach things as a student of the game and trying to get through things like that. So that's probably my big tip right there is just behave like a student. You're going to crush it.”
Brian Silva, former Pararescueman, is currently an Active Duty Physician Assistant Student. He has been in the military as a PJ for over a decade, with 8 deployments, and assignments both stateside and overseas at RQS and STS. Brian worked with both Aaron and Jared overseas and stateside, and did Instructor duty at Lackland with Trent. After being an Instructor at Indoc, he started the How To Be A PJ business, focusing on providing USAF Selection specific workouts. As an instructor he saw that people could show up better prepared, more knowledgeable, and start out day 1 with the right mindset… so mentoring SW candidates through the BE A PJ business has become one of his main priorities. A podcast is something many candidates have asked for in the past, so Ones Ready was born. Bringing on knowledgeable, combat tested, and well respected teammates from other career fields to help mentor future Operators is something that is near and dear to each member of Ones Ready. Brian’s #1 Selection tip:
“So my number one selection tip is to BURN THE BOATS. And what that means to me, is for you to go in and 100%. We get a lot of questions on Instagram and I've gotten personally a lot of questions saying, Hey, I want to do… “this” after I'm done with Pararescue or I want to do “this” after I'm done with CCT. None of us here thought that we were going to go in and go be “whatever” we're looking at. Like being a paramedic or a flight paramedic after we're done with this [PJ] or being a doctor after this. I didn't think I was going to be a PA after PJ. I didn't join the Air force to be a PA. I joined to be a PJ. So I think burning the boats means that you only have one option and that is to succeed at whatever you're about to attempt right now. You're going to go full force and put every resource and as much time as you have into making yourself successful as well as your team that is going to go there and crush it with you.”
WHAT IS A TEAM ROOM?
What exactly is a team room? We call our podcast the Ones Ready Team Room. When you become a PJ or CCT or SR, you will go to your unit… and after every single mission or training, you will go back to your team room to debrief. We debrief what happened throughout the day. We shoot the crap and we just talk about what happened throughout the day and open up to each other so we can learn from each other and talk about the things that happened. So the team room is that safe place where you know, no one's gonna talk crap about you outside of it. It's just going to be, you know, you guys hash it out, whatever it is. If you guys, someone made you really mad on the EX or on training event, then you guys hash it out in the team room and you're able to move on and learn from it. The team room is all about making each other better. If you hang around guys that are just happy with whatever menial job they're doing back in their hometown… then you know, you're not gonna get much better. But if you're around a bunch of dudes that are trying to make themselves better constantly, then you're gonna also be trying to make yourself better constantly. And so you can match up to the rest of the dudes on your team cause no one wants to be the weakest link on the team ever. Sp that's what we want, to welcome you guys to the team room and just so you guys have a little bit of an idea of what to expect and what we're going to be talking about. So we're going to try and bring you guys in as possible.
thank you!
We are really grateful for the opportunity to pass on our knowledge, to help make you guys better than we ever were. It means a lot to us that you would read the words on this episode page or listen to our podcast.
